Home brewing is legal in most states. The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms allows up to 100 gallons per adult per household (up to 200 gallons per family. If you have any questions, you should contact your local or state officials directly.
Can home brewed alcoholic beverages be shared with friends and family? (TOP)
In most states, home brewed beer, wine, and alcohol may be shared with friends and family, but not sold. You should, of course, always drink responsibly and be a responsible host. Check with your state or locality for specific information.
Can your kits and supplies be ordered by mail? (TOP)
Yes. Our kits and supplies do not contain alcohol and may be ordered by mail.
Do I have to be over 21 to purchase a brewing kit? (TOP)
The Cracked Cork does not sell brewing kits and supplies to persons under 21. Gift certificates, however, are available.
Is home brewing easy enough for a beginner, or is instruction required? (TOP)
Most home brewing kits from The Cracked Cork contain complete instruction and can be prepared by anyone with a basic knowledge of cooking and food preparation. We do offer classes and onsite training for the beginning brewer.
Is home brewing safe? (TOP)
Contrary to the stories you may have heard, your are unlikely to have exploding bottles. Follow the directions, watch your ingredients and temperatures, and you will be perfectly safe.
Do I need any special equipment? (TOP)
If you have a stove and a few cooking pots, your ready to give home brewing a try. Once you've got the hang of it, The Cracked Cork would be happy to supply you with bottles, corks, caps, and any specialty equipment you may want.
